Camp Hollywood HEART is not your typical summer camp. Located in the beautiful mountains of Malibu, California, we serve 80 young people ages 15-20 all impacted by HIV/AIDS. Campers come from all across the nation and have the opportunity to explore seven arts disciplines: acting, creative writing, culinary arts, documentary filmmaking, fashion, music, and visual arts.
"The week-long camp ends with a live performance where our young artists showcase their creativity before the camp community and guests."
Camp Hollywood HEART has long since been supported by the film industry. Founded by movie producer David Gale, we have welcomed to camp such actors as Will Arnett, Charlize Theron, David Arquette, Michelle Williams, Daisy Fuentes, and Cuba Gooding Jr. to inspire our campers. Additionally, the creator of SpongeBob Square Pants, Steve Hillenberg, comes up every summer to teach an animation workshop.
We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our youth illustrating the value of this program. Roy, a Music camper, wrote a song and learned how to copyright it. Another camper found the courage through our Creative Writing program, to express her story as an abuse survivor through her poetry. Laithan and Carolyne learned how to speak openly about their HIV status through interacting with other HIV-infected campers in our stigma-free environment and they now provide AIDS education in schools. There is no doubt that for the past 20 years, this exceptional combination of arts and learning has transformed our campers’ lives.
