INTRODUCING… HOLLYWOOD HEARTLAND!
The session formerly known as Camp Pacific Heartland is now called “Hollywood Heartland” to celebrate the dozen years of partnership between Camp Heartland and Hollywood HEART. Our 12th year of summer camp for children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS, was a huge success! Over 75 campers attended the week-long session at Camp Hilltop in Malibu.

Hollywood HEART hosted the dance party of the year, a beach-themed bash featuring the musical stylings of DJ Nate. Camp could not have been complete without Carnival night, which included balloon-o-grams, marshmallow-spitting contests and The Hollywood HEART “All-Stars Sports” photo booth. The week was filled with the usual laughter, hugs, nature hikes, face painting, water fights, and of course, a Hollywood Heart Movie Team production (see below.) Throughout the session many celebrities visited the mountain-top, including N'Sync's Lance Bass, Reichen Lemkuhl, Danica Patrick, Scott and Kelly Wolf, and Mila Kunis. At our closing campfire the kids were surprised by a special guest, Michelle Williams from Destiny's Child, who gave a sensational gospel singing performance and visited with all of the campers. Hollywood Heartland will continue to be a place where children infected or affected by HIV and AIDS can experience the joys of summer camp, make friends, and be accepted in a community. Many of our campers return to camp year after year because they really need that one week where they don't have to worry about their health or their family's health, and can just be a kid. Your continued support will allow Hollywood HEARTLAND to provide this opportunity to these children for years to come.

HOLLYWOOD HEART: SOMBER & JUBILIANT IN CAPETOWN
June 16th 1976 - Soweto Township, South Africa: a group of young students protesting the new laws that would force them to learn Afrikaans in school, march in the streets and are met with force by the SA police. Firing upon the children, the police kill dozens and the resulting riots spawn even more violence and death - but also more determination than ever by people of conscience in SA and around the world to end the system of institutional racism known as Apartheid.

June 16th 2006 - This day has become Youth Day in South Africa and Hollywood HEART was very honored and privileged to be invited by the Cape Town Film Commission to take part in the 30th anniversary of the Soweto Uprising on Youth Day 2006. HH founder David Gale joined Executive Director Lisa Cavanaugh on a trip to Cape Town for a few whirlwind weeks of speeches, celebrations, radio & TV interviews and most importantly, two Movie Team projects with children from the area's foster home & townships. We worked with many wonderful film industry professionals organized by production companies Ground Glass & The Imaginarium and the post production facility Condor Cape. The resulting films (“Youth Expressions” and “Children of South Africa”) are two of Movie Team's most heartrending, dealing with some very serious issues such as alcoholism, homelessness & child abuse. But with the spirit of joy that is ever present in the children of South Africa and in grand Movie Team tradition, both movies ended on a positive note with singing, dancing, laughter and hope.

The Cape Town Film Commission and Hollywood HEART are in preliminary planning stages for more South African based programming in 2007. The collaboration has been rewarding, exhilarating and full of promise. Please continue to check back for more updates on our ongoing alliance with the commission and our new friends in South Africa.

BIG SUPPORTERS CONTINUE TO HELP HH!
Hollywood HEART was feted once again by the incomparable team of supporters from the International Society of Hospitality Purchasers in Miami this fall. The party was held September 17th at the hip South Beach club “The Fifth”, where vendors mingled with purchasers in advance of one the hospitality industry's biggest trade shows, the HD Boutique Expo. Since 2000, the ISHP has raised nearly 3/4 of a million dollars to benefit Hollywood HEART's programs, Camp Pacific Heartland and The Movie Team. We continued to be thrilled by their extraordinary assistance.

Almost a dozen years and still rockin'! The legendary Warped tour continues to roll along, showcasing the hippest and hottest new hard rock, punk & alternative bands and sharing messages of activism and community with thousands of young North Americans each summer. Since 1995, the Warped tour has generously supported Hollywood HEART with over one million dollars in donations. Says Warped tour founder Kevin Lyman, “Having the chance to support Hollywood HEART's Camp Pacific Heartland program for nearly 12 years, is one of the little known and great things that came out of starting the Vans Warped tour. Each summer the $0.25 per ticket we have given makes a difference in making kids smile and have an enjoyable summer, during a tough time in their lives.” We couldn't agree more!
