Hollywood
HEART is a Los Angeles non-profit organization that provides
recreational and educational opportunities to at-risk youth through two
unique programs:
CAMP PACIFIC HEARTLAND, a summer camp program for children and adolescents infected and affected by HIV and AIDS; and
THE MOVIE TEAM,
a one of a kind filmmaking workshop that utilizes the film industry
background of its founders and board members to give children the
opportunity to write, direct, produce and star in their very own short
films.

NEW! Camp Hollywood HEART
A Visual and Performing Arts Camp for Teens
Hollywood HEART’s newest project, Camp Hollywood HEART (CHH) - an arts camp for youth ages 16 - 20 who are impacted by HIV/AIDS and who have “graduated” from our traditional summer camp experience (Camp Pacific Heartland), kicked off this August 11th – 16th.. Through week-long visual and performing arts workshops, thirty-six young adults got the opportunity to interact positively with each other and arts professionals, explore their creativity and achieve significant personal and career-centered insight.
CHH focused on six different disciplines called Team Skills: Acting, Dance, Movie- Making, Music, Writing, and Visual Arts. Becoming a professional was not the sole objective, but rather, it was about giving these young people a chance to learn and grow while developing a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem that will serve them in whatever they choose to do in life. In this unique setting, campers got to work closely with volunteer artists and entertainment industry professionals. Each of the participants chose a discipline for the week and progressed through a tailored curriculum that immersed them in that field.
Throughout the week participants were also able to explore disciplines not previously chosen through one-hour blocks of elective programming called Art Choice in which a variety of skilled artists taught campers everything from stage combat techniques, fashion design, Photoshop, and film scoring. CHH made sure to include a variety of fun, recreational and enlightening experiences such as a relaxing afternoon at a local beach with an expert sand sculpture artist, an evening of performances by professional musicians, spoken word artists and magicians, a screening of “Coach Carter” with Q& A from the writer and producer as well as another night of dancing with beloved DJ Nate and special guest L'il Mama.
The week culminated in a spectacular all-camp gala presentation of each group’s final work on Friday night, August 15th. The opportunity to celebrate each other’s talents was an experience that brought smiles of pride to the participants, staff and our invited guests. It was a magical evening that truly showcased the hard work, creativity and spirit of our campers. We look forward to watching our young friends grow in their crafts and talents over the years and return to Hilltop next summer.
